O LOVE THAT WILL NOT LET ME GO

O Joy that seekest me through pain,
I cannot close my heart to thee;
I trace the rainbow through the rain,
And feel the promise is not vain,
That morn shall tearless be
.
O Cross that liftest up my head,
I dare not ask to fly from thee;
I lay in dust life’s glory dead,
And from the ground there blossoms red
Life that shall endless be.

O Love that will not let me go,
I rest my weary soul in Thee;
I give Thee back the life I owe,
That from Thine ocean depths it's flow
May richer, fuller be.
O light that followest all my way,
I yield my flickering torch to thee;
My heart restores its borrowed ray,
That in thy sunshine’s blaze its day
May brighter, fairer be.

Lyrics by George Matheson

The story behind George Metheson is a classic. Eldest child of 8, he graduated from the University of Edinbourgh with a degree in the classics, logic and philosophy. He was also engaged to be married, but when his fiance learned he was going blind, she broke the engagement. He was totally blind by age 20. He went on to become a pastor. The beautiful lyrics to the above song was written at his sister's wedding. It's yet another reminder that God's love never leaves us, no matter the circumstances we endure on this earth.
